Frequently asked questions

ABOUT | FAQ | EMPLOYMENT

  • Congrats on deciding to start therapy. Whether you start with TGT or with someone else, be sure to learn about your potential therapist. Call them, ask them questions, see if you vibe with them. WIth TGT, the process is easy. Start off by filling out our contact form and we’ll take it from there.

  • Therapy is for everyone. You don’t need to be diagnosed with anything to go to therapy. Therapy can be used to talk about what happened at work today or a rough relationship with a friend. By the way, we don’t use “crazy” anymore.

  • That’s a valid question. Therapy can get expensive. We are occasionally able to help with a sliding fee scale if you qualify.

  • No we don’t. Don’t let that stop you though. Even though we don’t directly take insurance, we can help you figure out how to pay for therapy. We can help you figure out your insurance to see if you can submit your receipts (called Superbills) from your sessions.

  • We have a 24 hour cancellation policy and charge you your full rate if you cancel less than 24 hours from your appointment. But we get it. Life happens. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

At TBT, you can miss one appointment as a freebie. If you miss a 2nd time, you’ll be charged. After all: without 24 hours’ notice, your therapist is unable to schedule anyone else for your slot.

  • Simple Practice is the Electronic Health Records system that we use to track the schedule, your session notes, and where you will be getting appointment reminders from. This is also the system that you will enter all of your payment information and sign any HIPAA related documents.

  • Just let your therapist know. There is no charge if you choose to stop or pause.

Please let us know if there is a concern about the cost, scheduling, etc. We just may be able to help. You can start back up anytime or change frequency of sessions as needed.

  • Yes and No. It depends on the therapist and what you’re texting them. Generally, texts should only be used to field general questions: confirming or changing appointments, or to get a quick answer. Texting should not be used in addition to therapy to continue the session, or to seek therapy in off-hours.

Let’s work to establish and respect good boundaries. Generally if you text a therapy related issue, your therapist may text back with “that sounds interesting, let’s address that in our session next week” or “make some notes in your journal so you don’t forget what you’re feeling/thinking and we’ll touch on it later this week when we meet.”

  • Good question! We value your confidentiality. As stated in our informed consent document, it is up to you whether you follow TGT social media. Remember that interacting with us—following, liking, making comments, sharing—might inadvertently hint to others that you could be a client of TGT.

Therapists at TGT will never follow you back on socials or respond through social media about your individual therapy. Also, if you ever make comments on external websites like Yelp or Google, whether good or bad, that may also compromise your confidentiality. Talk it over with your therapist if you have additional questions about our social media policies.

  • Unfortunately, even though our services are online: our therapists are currently only licensed to practice in California and Illinois. We are expanding, however, and will soon be broadening our reach to additional states.

  • Great question. We’ve got it all right here.
